Professional Development Opportunities

It has been a very busy start to the 2011 New Year!  Back at work and looking over my calendar, I realized that there have been many educational opportunities this past month.

Mid January I participated in a pre-Institute facilitator virtual meeting with Marian Small in prepartation for the High School Mathematics Institute on January 26, 2011 held at the Fantasyland Hotel in Edmonton, Alberta.

At the end of the month I presented at the SMESA (Science and Math Education Students Association) conference at the University of Alberta.

This past Friday I spent the day at ERLC presenting a session to Grade 3 teachers on “Exploring Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, and Personal Strategies in the Grade Three Classroom.”  It was a great day!

This coming Thursday and Friday I am excited to be attending the NCTCA Conference “Achieving Change Together” being held at the Shaw Conference Centre and Westin Hotel in Edmonton.

Let the learning continue!

About musingsofamathteacher

I am presently employed at New Sarepta Elementary School as a grade five teacher. During my career I have taught Grades 12 - 2. The past three years I was fortunate to work part-time as Math Lead for my school district, Black Gold Regional Schools, and have just recently accepted a part-time secondment with Edmonton Regional Learning Consortium. I have always had a passion for mathematics and am excited about implementing Alberta's "new" mathematics curriculum.
