The Maple Leaf Math Challenge

My class is participating in the Maple Leaf Math Challenge November 9-10, 2011!  What a wonderful opportunity to get students excited about math.  This challenge is a spin off of Mathletics, which hosts World Math Day each year.  I am super excited as this particular challenge is geared toward my Canadian curriculum, and allows me to place my students at various ability levels to make the experience rich for all of range of students.

Students begin by creating an avatar of themselves.  This alone interests many of the students.  Students complete a variety of math questions in a variety of mathematical areas.  They are rewarded points for each correct answer that they achieve.

Registration is free and easy to boot!

Check the site out if you get a chance.

Happy November everyone!

About musingsofamathteacher

I am presently employed at New Sarepta Elementary School as a grade five teacher. During my career I have taught Grades 12 - 2. The past three years I was fortunate to work part-time as Math Lead for my school district, Black Gold Regional Schools, and have just recently accepted a part-time secondment with Edmonton Regional Learning Consortium. I have always had a passion for mathematics and am excited about implementing Alberta's "new" mathematics curriculum.
