World Maths Day 2012

Hooray!  World Educational Games is now open for pre-registration!

One of my favorite enrichment activities for my students is to enrol them in World Maths Day.  Students play at home and at school against other students around the world in live games of mental arithmetic. Each game lasts for 60 seconds and students can play up to 100 games, earning points for their personal tally. Over 5.5 million students from 200 countries are expected to participate in 2012!

World Maths Day is one of three events that make up World Educational Games.  The other two events offered are World Spelling Day and World Science Day.

This year the competitions take place March 6 – 8, 2012.  Registrations and practice open on 1 February 2012.

My students find this a major highlight of our mathematics program!

Enjoy!

About musingsofamathteacher

I am presently employed at New Sarepta Elementary School as a grade five teacher. During my career I have taught Grades 12 - 2. The past three years I was fortunate to work part-time as Math Lead for my school district, Black Gold Regional Schools, and have just recently accepted a part-time secondment with Edmonton Regional Learning Consortium. I have always had a passion for mathematics and am excited about implementing Alberta's "new" mathematics curriculum.
